Ionic Column Capital
Photogrammetry model by local volunteers from Umm Qais as part of the Living Museum Umm Qais project.
Ionic greek column capital from the ancient city of Gadara (modern Umm Qais, Jordan) carved from local grey basalt. Ionic capitals were common throughout the Greek world from the 6th Century onwards and this captial probably dates from Gadara’s Hellenic period (4th - 1st Century BCE). The column base and column drum are probably not originally assocated with this capital.
