The monastery of St. Simon in Syria and the terrace of Umm Qais are both rare examples of central octagonal churches in Byzantine architecture. So its sad to see the damage but good to see other local groups like Syrians For Heritage that are also documenting and protecting their cultural heritage that links us all.
Their motto says it all: "Through our tangible and intangible heritage, we can comprehend our past and anticipate our future." (Syrians For Heritage).
